DOG OWNER WARNING: Parvo virus outbreak
Posted Mon, Feb 8th 2010, 18:07(Grand Cayman - CITN) -
The Humane Society and the Island Veterinary Service on Walkers Road say dog owners need to protect their dogs from the Parvo virus now.
Parvo is a highly contagious virus mainly affecting dogs and there has been a recent outbreak in Grand Cayman. The disease is infectious and can be easily spread from dog to dog.
Veterinarians say it can be especially severe in puppies. The common signs of infection include severe vomiting and diarrhoea. It can also cause respiratory failure in young dogs. The free vaccine offered can prevent this infection.
The Island Veterinary Service on Walker’s Rd. will be hosting three free vaccine clinics to protect your dog(s). The first free clinic was held on Sunday, 7 February.
The next chance for dog owners to take up the fee parvo virus shots will be:
28 February from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
21 March from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Owners must take their animal for three separate injections to be fully protected.
For further information, please contact the Island Veterinary Service on 949-0787 or the Cayman Islands Humane Society on 949-1461.
